Together with the external <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ysma.gr\/en\/educational-actions\/lets-learn-play-and-create\/greek-columns-and-column-capitals\/\"><strong>columns<\/strong><\/a> they show the order of each building: Doric, Ionic or Corinthian.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1648030964182{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 18px !important;}&#8221; kswr_row_top_decor_enabled=&#8221;false&#8221; kswr_row_bottom_decor_enabled=&#8221;false&#8221;][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;4\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #4799e4;\">And even higher, the pediment!<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Above the entablature, on the two narrow sides of the temple, the roof and the horizontal cornice form a triangular area, the pediment. The word \u201cpediment\u201d (in greek \u03b1\u03ad\u03c4\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1) comes from the word \u201ceagle\u201d (in greek \u03b1\u03b5\u03c4\u03cc\u03c2). Have you ever seen an eagle with open wings? The pediment in ancient temples was usually decorated with large statues and depicted scenes from the myths of gods or heroes.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;8\/12&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;64896&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row gap=&#8221;20&#8243; kswr_row_top_decor_enabled=&#8221;false&#8221; kswr_row_bottom_decor_enabled=&#8221;false&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>What are the differences of the entablature in each order?<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The <strong><span style=\"color: #4799e4;\">architrave <\/span><\/strong>in the Doric order is completely plain while in the other two orders it is divided into three horizontal bands.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><span style=\"color: #4799e4;\">frieze<\/span><\/strong> in the Doric order consists of <span style=\"color: #4799e4;\"><strong>\u201ctriglyphs\u201d<\/strong><\/span>,parts of the temple decorated with three vertical relief grooves and<strong><span style=\"color: #4799e4;\"> \u201cmetopes\u201d<\/span><\/strong>,square slabs that often have relief decoration. Unfortunately most of these colors have been lost today and the impression we get from the white color of the temples is very different from that of the antiquity. They are replaced on the monuments with replicas made of artificial stone. This is the case with the sculptures of the Ionic frieze of the Parthenon and the temple of Athena Nike as well as with the metopes and the statues of the pediments of the
