As part of the celebration of European Heritage Days 2025, with the theme: “Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future”, the Office of Information & Education of the Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) designed and successfully implemented the educational seminar entitled: “Restoring the Acropolis Monuments– An Educational Approach.”
The seminar took place at the archaeological site of the Acropolis on September 26th with the participation of schoolteachers of secondary education level.
The aim of the seminar was to present the current restoration interventions that are being carried out on the monuments of the Acropolis as a bridge connecting the past with the present and safeguarding them for the future. Educators were first informed about the initial restoration works on the Acropolis, the causes of monuments’ damage through time as well as the principles and the methods applied during the large-scale, modern restoration program implemented by YSMA. Afterwards, they toured the archaeological site and saw up close both the completed and ongoing restoration projects on each monument.
Alongside the tour, the new educational website of our Service entitled “Restoring the Acropolis Monuments” (https://acropolisrestoration.ysma.gr/en/) was presented. Teachers can use it as a tool in their classrooms, enabling their students to learn about the scientific and technical work being carried out on the Acropolis for the restoration and conservation of its monuments.
