Four new digital games are now available to both Greek and international public on the Parthenon Frieze website (https://parthenonfrieze.gr/) as the result of the collaboration between the Acropolis Restoration Service, the Acropolis Museum and the National Documentation Centre. These games complement the Play with the Frieze unit and build upon the two previous games (“The Colors of the Frieze” and “Man, God, Animal”). Together, they help children and adults explore the Parthenon frieze in a creative and enjoyable way!
Τhe puzzle-game “A Gift for the Goddess” helps children recreate the central scene of the eastern Parthenon frieze that depicts the offering of the peplos, the gift of the Athenians to their patron goddess.
The game “Take Part in the Procession” introduces the various groups of people participating in the Panathenaic procession. Scenes showing horsemen, chariots, gods or the sacrificial procession appear on the screen as cards in a tombola- style game.
In “Try to Find me” game children are encouraged to notice and spot the “hidden” details in the frieze that bring movement and life to the continuous relief.
Through the quiz “Become a Conservator” children learn about the damage the frieze has suffered and the methodology used to restore it.
Additionally, all four games are accompanied by printable educational activities for home and classroom use enhancing the digital experience for children and parents, students and teachers alike.
