The Diario de Avisos Foundation has chosen to award the TERRA Award to the Acropolis Restoration Service for the conservation and restoration works carried out on the Acropolis monuments. The TERRA Awards are a newly established institution that aims to support unique initiatives around the world to preserve and enhance UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The cultural works to be awarded should be of innovative nature and exemplary character and should have created a unique imprint on the environment, culture, economy and quality of life. Distinctive projects will be awarded annually with the support of UNESCO, in a ceremony to be held in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna – itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
At the beginning of the institution, apart from the Acropolis Restoration Service, awards will be presented to the Palenque Pre-Hispanic City and National Park (Mexico), the María Reiche International Association for Art & Science (Nasca and Palpa Geoglyphs, Peru), the monumental complex of Stonehenge (Great Britain) and in the Group of World Heritage Cities (Spain).
The awards will be presented during a ceremony to be held on September 29, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at the iconic Leal Theater in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife and will be followed by a performance by tenor Celso Albelo, a native of La Laguna. YSMA will be represented by the Director, Mrs. V. Eleftheriou, who will receive the award.
